This month, we’re speaking with Sara Ahmed, Director of Clinical and Surgical Services at the Harley Street Specialist Hospital (HSSH), a six-floor hospital located in the heart of the Harley Street Health District.
Can you give us an overview of your organisation and its focus?
Harley Street Specialist Hospital (HSSH) is an 11,100 square foot hospital located on Queen Anne Street. We have a full operating suite, recovery bays, minor operations suite, imaging suite, and eleven beautifully refurbished consulting rooms. We offer day surgery across a range of specialties, including orthopaedics, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and pain treatment. We’re also licensed for research and development and offer overnight stays in case of clinical emergencies. Our goal is to deliver an outstanding patient experience and superior clinical outcomes, driven by our values.
What are your main responsibilities, and what’s your favourite part of the role?
Day to day, I oversee the clinical and surgical departments, ensuring high-quality care, efficient operation, and compliance with healthcare regulations.
What I enjoy most about my role is working with the most loving, caring, and enthusiastic team I have ever worked with. I adore you all! It’s such a pleasure to be part of a team that is so vibrant and passionate about delivering excellent care.
How would you describe a typical day for you?
A typical day is fast-paced and varied! I spend most of my time overseeing the daily operations of the clinical and surgical teams, ensuring we meet our high standards of care. I also engage with patients, consultants, and other healthcare professionals to ensure everything runs smoothly. Every day is different, and that’s what keeps it exciting!
What do you enjoy most about working in the Harley Street area?
I can’t quite pinpoint it, but even after moving to the UAE, I’ve always felt that “there is no place like home!” The Harley Street area has an energy, wisdom, etiquette, and decorum that is unmatched worldwide. There’s something magical about it.
Do you have any hidden gems or favourite spots in the area you’d recommend?
Yes! One of my favourite spots is Massaggi on Wimpole Street. Ben, the therapist, is honestly a magician. His treatments are so bespoke and tailored to whatever pain or injury you might be suffering from. He goes above and beyond to make sure you leave feeling like a brand-new person. I highly recommend it!
