The Retina Clinic London has appointed Mr Christos Koutsidis, Consultant Ophthalmologist and Ophthalmic Surgeon, as it expands its specialist cataract and medical retina capability, reflecting growing demand for integrated management of patients with complex ophthalmic presentations.
Mr Koutsidis brings more than 10 years of international clinical experience across the UK, Greece, Germany and Russia. His appointment strengthens The Retina Clinic London’s expertise across medical retina, uveitis, glaucoma, anterior segment disease, cataract surgery and pterygia treatment.
Commenting on the appointment, Professor Paulo Eduardo Stanga, Founder and Chief Medical Officer of The Retina Clinic London, said:
“Demand is increasing for specialist and personalised assessment of patients whose cataract surgery planning is influenced by retinal disease, inflammatory eye conditions, previous ocular interventions or complex visual requirements. As ophthalmic care becomes increasingly subspecialised, there is growing value in bringing cataract, medical retina and advanced imaging expertise together within a single clinical pathway.
Christos brings exactly that combination of skills. His experience spans cataract surgery, medical retina, vitreoretinal imaging and complex ophthalmic disease, making him exceptionally well placed to support both patients and referring clinicians managing challenging cases. We are delighted to welcome him to The Retina Clinic London.”
Mr Christos Koutsidis said: “This is an exciting time in ophthalmology. Advances in retinal imaging, diagnostics and treatment are changing how we assess and manage patients with increasingly complex needs, while expectations around visual outcomes continue to rise.
What attracted me to The Retina Clinic London is its commitment to combining advanced diagnostics, specialist expertise, innovation and research within a highly collaborative environment. The opportunity to work alongside Professor Stanga and the The Retina Clinic London team provides a unique platform to support patients whose care may benefit from detailed retinal assessment, sophisticated imaging and carefully tailored treatment planning.”
At the Retina Clinic London Mr Koutsidis will contribute to an integrated ophthalmic model supported by advanced diagnostics, the latest multimodal imaging, on-site operating theatre, and specialist retinal expertise.
Mr Koutsidis previously completed fellowship training in Medical Retina and Vitreoretinal Imaging at The Retina Clinic London under Professor Stanga. He has also contributed to international clinical research conducted at The Retina Clinic London in age-related macular degeneration and inherited retinal dystrophies.
His research interests include vitreoretinal disease, retinal imaging and ophthalmic innovation. He has authored two chapters in a cataract surgery textbook and has presented at more than 40 national and international scientific meetings. He speaks English, Greek, Russian and German.
The Retina Clinic London is recognised for its specialist retinal and ophthalmic expertise, combining advanced imaging technologies, clinical research, medical retina services and surgical capability within a consultant-led environment in central London.
