Cavendish Square redevelopment Update

Recent work has included site investigations, preparation for the demolition of the existing ramp and the start of controlled basement tunnelling. Over the next few weeks, activity will focus on the gardens, site hoarding and the installation of two tower cranes.

Work completed

Work carried out so far includes:

• Establishing underground welfare facilities
• Completing site-wide investigation works
• Installing fencing around the first-stage compound at the south-east corner of the gardens
• Carrying out enabling works for ramp demolition and propping
• Removing non-structural elements
• Closing Cavendish Square Gardens and relocating benches and bins
• Beginning controlled basement tunnelling within level three of the car park

Coming up this month

Local residents, businesses and visitors can expect to see further activity around the square, including:

• Erection of timber hoarding around the site perimeter
• Removal of the existing garden landscaping down to roof level
• Demolition of the existing garden roof slab
• Installation of foundations for two tower cranes
• Delivery and erection of the tower cranes within the gardens
• Continued basement tunnelling within level three of the car park

Please note that some works — particularly underground enabling works — may take place outside standard daytime hours, including on some weekends.

Community Liaison Group meeting

Local residents, businesses and other stakeholders are invited to attend the next Cavendish Square Community Liaison Group meeting.
The group provides an opportunity to hear about forthcoming construction activity, receive regular project updates and put questions directly to the project team.

McGee has been appointed by Reef + Partners, which is working in partnership with Westminster City Council to deliver the Cavendish Square redevelopment. The wider scheme will create a refurbished public garden and square, improve the surrounding highway layout and extend the underground structure by two storeys.

The project is expected to be completed by summer 2030.
