The Harley Street BID is home to an incredible mix of businesses, organisations and practices. Each month, we take five minutes to get to know one of the people who helps make Harley Street such a special place. This month, we spoke with Kan Douglas Fikret, the new Team Supervisor at the Harley Street BID.
What are your main responsibilities, and what’s your favourite part of the role?
I act as a primary point of contact for my frontline colleagues, supporting them with any issues that arise and delegating key tasks and event responsibilities to ensure everything runs smoothly from a security perspective. My favourite part of the role is working closely with the team and helping to make sure both colleagues and visitors have a positive experience in the area.
How would you describe a typical day?
There is never one day the same, which is partly why I enjoy the job so much. A typical day is eventful, rewarding and, at times, challenging. Every day brings something different.
What do you enjoy most about working in the Harley Street area?
The BID management team and my colleagues have all made me feel incredibly welcome and are very easy to work with. The businesses in the area are also very cooperative and supportive, which makes the role even more enjoyable.
Do you have any hidden gems or favourite spots in the area you’d recommend?
There are lots of great places to enjoy in the area. Paddington Street Gardens is a peaceful spot to relax and unwind, and the same can be said for Cavendish Square Gardens. I’m yet to try many of the local restaurants, so on that particular question, I’ll have to get back to you… haha!
Share something interesting about yourself that others might not know.
I was an amateur boxer and have been involved in boxing for around 16 years, which is something not many people know about me.
