Five Minutes with Stephane Kuhn, Head of School at EIFA International School

The Harley Street BID is home to an incredible variety of businesses, organisations, and practices. Each month, we take a moment to get to know some of the people who make this place so special.

This month, we’re meeting Stephane Kuhn, Head of School at EIFA International School—an English-French international co-educational nursery, junior, and middle independent day school located in Marylebone.

Can you give us an overview of your organisation and its focus?
EIFA International School is a French-English bilingual institution offering an ambitious curriculum that combines the French National Curriculum with our own International Programme. Our dedicated team of educators supports students in achieving full bilingual proficiency. We prepare young people for the challenges of the 21st century by developing essential skills that enable them to thrive and make meaningful contributions to their communities.

What are your main responsibilities, and what’s your favourite part of the role?
The heart of my role lies in fostering partnerships. While every educator must prioritise children’s wellbeing and development, a school’s success depends on nurturing all its relationships. I cherish the partnerships I build with our community – from guiding students in their growth to supporting colleagues in their professional development and maintaining open dialogue with parents. These interactions continuously enrich me both personally and professionally.

How would you describe a typical day for you?
I arrive early to prepare for the day ahead, before the school comes to life. Greeting families and children at the door with a warm smile sets a positive tone for everyone. My day typically includes team meetings and collaborative sessions with colleagues, and I always prioritise spending quality time in different classrooms. After a day immersed in learning, I head home to my young son, where my second job as a parent begins until bedtime!

What do you enjoy most about working in the Harley Street area?
Harley Street possesses a certain je ne sais quoi – maintaining its fresh energy despite being in central London. As a history enthusiast, I’m captivated by the area’s rich heritage. It’s essentially an open-air museum, with historical figures having occupied nearly every building – you’ll find more blue plaques here than street signs!

Do you have any hidden gems or favourite spots in the area you’d recommend?
While I know several charming pubs in the area, perhaps I should keep those recommendations for more informal conversations!

In three words, how would you describe the Harley Street / Marylebone Village experience?
Sophisticated, elegant, charming.

Share something interesting about yourself that others might not know.
Many moons ago, I used to sing in a hard rock band. We never made it, but it was the most nerve-wracking experience ever. I now focus my singing skills on nursery rhymes – and it’s just as tough a crowd.
