The Retina Clinic London has become the first private clinic in central London to offer Direct Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (DSLT) using the Alcon Voyager platform, providing patients with access to one of the latest advances in non-contact laser treatment for glaucoma.
The introduction of the Alcon Voyager platform further strengthens the clinic’s specialist glaucoma service, offering eligible patients an innovative laser treatment designed to reduce intraocular pressure without invasive surgery and, in many cases, reduce dependence on long-term glaucoma eye drops.
Unlike conventional Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT), the Voyager platform delivers treatment without direct contact with the eye. Using automated eye-tracking and computer-guided laser delivery, the system applies 120 precisely targeted laser pulses through the limbus to stimulate the eye’s natural drainage system, known as the trabecular meshwork. This improves fluid outflow and helps lower intraocular pressure in suitable patients.
Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness worldwide. As vision loss cannot be restored once it occurs, early diagnosis, careful monitoring and effective treatment remain essential to preserving sight.
Clinical evidence continues to support DSLT as an effective treatment option. In the GLAUrious study, 62% of patients treated with Voyager DSLT remained medication-free 12 months after treatment, while 81% required the same or fewer glaucoma medications compared with before treatment.
The procedure is designed to improve both treatment precision and the patient experience. No contact lens is required during treatment, the laser itself takes only a few seconds per eye, and most patients experience little or no discomfort before returning to normal activities shortly afterwards, subject to their consultant’s advice.
