The London Clinic launches pioneering Upper GI Motility Service in collaboration with Northwestern Medicine

The London Clinic has announced the launch of a new Upper GI Motility Service, developed in collaboration with Northwestern Medicine.

The state-of-the-art service provides advanced diagnostics for conditions affecting the oesophagus and stomach, supported by the latest technology to enhance accuracy and patient outcomes. Its introduction completes The London Clinic’s comprehensive gastrointestinal care pathway, positioning the organisation at the forefront of innovation in GI health.

The new Motility Service will enable earlier diagnosis, more precise treatment, and improved outcomes for patients with a wide range of upper GI disorders, including motility disorders of the oesophagus, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), and functional disorders of the upper GI tract. Conditions assessed include dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), achalasia, diffuse oesophageal spasm, hypercontractile (jackhammer) oesophagus, ineffective oesophageal motility, and other complex motility problems.

To showcase the capabilities of the new service and the latest minimally invasive therapies for complex digestive disorders, Dr Vinay Sehgal, Consultant Gastroenterologist at The London Clinic, was joined by Dr Aziz Aadam, Director of Interventional Endoscopy at Northwestern Medicine, and Dr John Pandolfino of Northwestern Medicine and Northwestern University. Together, they livestreamed a procedure from one of The London Clinic’s state-of-the-art endoscopy rooms, which have recently been upgraded with advanced technology thanks to the generous support of the SP Lohia Foundation.

Commenting on the launch, Dr Sehgal said: “By combining multidisciplinary expertise, advanced tools and this global partnership, we aim for more accurate diagnoses, more personalised treatments, and better outcomes for patients with upper GI conditions – setting a new standard in GI care.”
