Local businesses and members of the community joined the Harley Street BID for a Garden Refresh Day at Paddington Street Gardens, helping to brighten and enhance the much-loved green space.
The BID brought together volunteers from local organisations, including businesses from the neighbouring Baker Street Quarter, to replant one of the main garden borders in the northern section of the gardens. Working alongside the volunteers, the team planted a mix of new shrubs and aromatic plants selected for their health and wellbeing benefits, adding colour, texture and fragrance to the space.

New planting includes small shrubs such as strawberry trees, orange blossom, sweet box and hydrangeas, complemented by clusters of English lavender, chocolate peppermint and calming chamomile. Volunteers also planted additional shrubs in the front flower bed and spread organic matter to improve soil conditions and support future growth.
The project was expertly led by Steve Mills of Krinkels, Westminster’s parks contractor, who provided guidance and support throughout the day, helping volunteers learn more about planting and caring for the new additions.
The day was a great success, with volunteers rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck in. Their hard work has already made a visible difference to the gardens, while creating an attractive and welcoming environment for everyone who lives, works and spends time in the area. Thank you to Coffee Brigade for providing refreshments for the volunteers on the day.
The event forms part of the BID’s ongoing commitment to improving and maintaining Paddington Street Gardens as a valuable green space for the local community. Following the success of the refresh day, the BID is now looking for between one and three volunteers to help care for the newly planted shrub bed. The role involves occasional watering, weeding and general tidying, requiring around one to two hours each month.
Volunteers can carry out the work at times that suit them or join organised sessions with support from the BID. Tools and gloves will be provided. Anyone interested in getting involved should contact Christine at christine@harleystreetbid.com.
