The Harley Street BID is home to an incredible variety of businesses, organisations, and practices. Each month, we take a moment to get to know some of the people who make this place so special.
This month, we spoke to Dr Adam Thorne, Founder and Clinical Director at Harley Street Dental Studio. Founded on the philosophy of superlative, pain-free care delivered by the very best dental expertise, Harley Street Dental Studio has established a reputation since 2004 as one of the UK’s most respected dental practices. All clinicians are handpicked for their world-class expertise, attention to detail, and level of care.
Can you give us an overview of your organisation and its focus?
At Harley Street Dental Studio, we’re on a mission to redefine dentistry, blending cutting-edge clinical excellence and multi-disciplinary care under one roof with an experience more akin to a luxury spa than a traditional dental surgery. From cosmetic smile makeovers and Invisalign to life-changing implant treatments, we focus on helping patients feel confident, empowered, and (dare I say it) even excited to visit the dentist.
What are your main responsibilities, and what’s your favourite part of the role?
As Clinical Director, I guide our exceptional team of dentists and specialists, set the clinical vision, and ensure we’re always one step ahead in innovation and patient care. My favourite part? Transforming lives through smiles – there’s nothing quite like seeing a patient look in the mirror and rediscover their confidence.
How would you describe a typical day for you?
A “typical” day is a rare species around here! We kick things off with a morning huddle – making sure everyone knows who’s in, what support they need, and how we can elevate each patient’s journey. Mornings usually involve clinical treatments, from advanced restorative work to perfecting a new smile design. Afternoons are often dedicated to mentoring the team, strategy meetings, or dreaming up new ways to improve our patient experience. And somewhere in between, I try to stay fit, am learning the saxophone, and run a taxi service for my four kids and their sports!
What do you enjoy most about working in the Harley Street area?
The incredible energy. You’re surrounded by some of the world’s leading clinicians, creatives, and innovators – there’s a constant hum of ambition and excellence. Plus, the area’s unique blend of heritage and forward-thinking makes it feel like anything is possible.
Do you have any hidden gems or favourite spots in the area you’d recommend?
I’ve got a few! The Wigmore is great for a relaxed bite and a lively atmosphere after a long day. Daunt Books on Marylebone High Street is perfect for getting lost among travel stories or picking up inspiration for the next adventure. If you’re after some great art away from the buzz of manic London streets, the Wallace Collection is the place to be.
Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecôte is a must: classic steak-frites done to perfection. On Sundays, the Marylebone Farmers’ Market is excellent for hunting local treats. And of course, the shops on Marylebone High Street – The Conran Shop, Sézane, and ME+EM – are favourites of my wife. More often than not, I’m picking up something she’s ordered!
In three words, how would you describe the Harley Street / Marylebone Village experience?
Elegant. Inspiring. Unexpected.
Share something interesting about yourself that others might not know.
Despite spending my days perfecting smiles, I used to row at school and university and still take to the water whenever I can – and I’ve just taken up the saxophone!
