As part of our ongoing series spotlighting the people who make up the Harley Street area, this month we spoke to Nathan van Sittert, Director of Operations at All Souls Langham Place.
All Souls is one of the largest parish churches in England, with around 1,500 worshippers meeting every Sunday. Its mission is to know Christ deeply and share that love practically with its neighbours – a commitment that extends far beyond the main church and into the heart of the Marylebone community.
Could you tell us about your role and give us an overview of All Souls Langham Place and its focus?
All Souls is one of the largest parish churches in England, with around 1,500 worshippers meeting every Sunday. Our mission is to know Christ deeply and share that love practically with our neighbours. This practical commitment extends far beyond the main church. We oversee several other buildings in the Marylebone area, including the Grade I listed Gibbs church, St Peter’s, Vere Street, which celebrated its 300th anniversary last year, and St Paul’s, Robert Adam Street, which is widely used by local schools. We also run the All Souls Clubhouse and our outreach charity, ASSTC, both of which make a real difference in the community through support and connection.
What are your main responsibilities, and what’s your favourite part of the role?
My responsibilities are broad, I oversee all operations and administration, from buildings and finance to staff development and governance. What I enjoy most is the privilege of developing leaders and helping teams grow. Seeing people use their gifts effectively and take ownership of their work is incredibly fulfilling.
How would you describe a typical day, and what makes working in the Harley Street area special?
No two days are quite the same, which is part of the fun! Some are filled with high-level meetings and strategic planning with trustees, while others are much more hands-on — collaborating with our Clubhouse teams or supporting community projects. My work is varied, people-focused, and there’s always something new to learn. The Harley Street area itself is such a special part of London. I value the unique mix of high-level professionalism and genuine community spirit. Everyone is busy, but there’s a real sense of shared purpose and people looking out for one another.
Do you have any hidden gems or favourite local spots you’d recommend?
Absolutely. Paddington Street Gardens is a favourite — it’s a lovely spot to pause and catch your breath. I also enjoy Cavendish Square, especially when the sun’s out. And of course, the All Souls Clubhouse — it’s one of the best community spaces around and a place where so much good happens quietly behind the scenes.
Finally, share something interesting about yourself that others might not know.
Outside of work, I’m a dad to a lively little boy named Evan, who keeps life fun and full of surprises! I’m passionate about helping others grow in their faith and leadership and love seeing how that plays out across all the diverse communities we’re part of here in Marylebone.
