The Harley Street and Fitzrovia Partnership BIDs Plant Tree to mark London Climate Action Week

Two neighbouring Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), Harley Street BID and The Fitzrovia Partnership, have come together to plant a tree on the Westminster side of Fitzrovia. The initiative forms part of London Climate Action Week 2025 and demonstrates a shared commitment to greener, healthier urban spaces.

The initiative forms part of London Climate Action Week 2025 and demonstrates a shared commitment to greener, healthier urban spaces. The tree has been planted at Greenwell Street an area on the boundary of both districts.

It is part of a wider collaboration between the two BIDs to improve the public realm, increase canopy cover, and support local climate action. The location also complements recent improvements along New Cavendish Street and builds on long-standing work to create more welcoming, greener environments across Fitzrovia and Marylebone.

The initiative has been supported by sponsors from both BIDs, including the Westminster Tree Trust and delivered in partnership with Westminster City Council. Together, the aim is to create small but visible improvements that support biodiversity, improve air quality, and provide respite in a busy urban setting.

Nicki Palmer, BID Director Harley Street BID  said: “Working in partnership with local stakeholders and The Fitzrovia Partnership has allowed us to deliver something simple but meaningful for our shared area. This new tree is part of our commitment to improving the local environment and creating a more attractive, healthier place for everyone who lives, works, or visits here. As BIDs, we’re in a unique position to drive practical changes on the ground, and it’s collaborations like this that help make long-term ambitions real.”

Mark Gazaleh, Board Director of The Fitzrovia Partnership and Westminster Tree Trust commented:“This kind of partnership working is exactly what we want to see more of across Westminster. The support from both BIDs, alongside the commitment to improve the public realm, shows how even a single tree can be a catalyst for wider environmental change. We’re proud to have helped bring this project to life and look forward to supporting more greening initiatives like this in the future.”

The tree planting is one of several events taking place during London Climate Action Week, a citywide programme that brings together communities, businesses, and policymakers to accelerate climate solutions. By working across BID boundaries, this project shows the impact of joined-up action and the value of local partnerships.
