Welcome to the Team: Sachintha Abeyrathne, Business Administration Graduate

We’re delighted to welcome Sachintha Abeyrathne to Harley Street Business Improvement District, who has joined the team as our new Business Administration Graduate.

In his new role, Sachintha supports the BID team across day-to-day operations, working closely with the BID Director and colleagues across multiple functions, including business engagement, safety and resilience, marketing, and events. His role is a varied one, involving coordination, data tracking, documentation, stakeholder communication, and supporting collaborative projects across the organisation.

What is your new role within the BID, and what will you be doing as part of it?
I have joined Harley Street BID as a Business Administration Graduate. In this role, I support the BID team across day-to-day operations while working closely with the guidance and support of the BID Director and colleagues across multiple functions, including business engagement, safety and resilience, marketing, and events. My responsibilities include coordination, data tracking, documentation, stakeholder communication, and supporting projects that require collaboration across the team.

Can you tell us about your previous roles and the key responsibilities you held there?
Previously, I worked in roles that required leadership, accountability, and strong cross-functional collaboration. I was a Quintin Hogg Trust Funded Project Coordinator at the University of Westminster, where I supported complex, multi-stakeholder international projects, coordinated logistics, managed documentation, tracked progress, and worked closely with academic and professional services teams to deliver outcomes.
Alongside this, I worked as a Shift Manager at Greggs, where I led shifts, supported team members, ensured operational standards were met, and maintained a positive customer experience in a fast-paced environment. This role strengthened my people management, decision-making, and teamwork skills, especially under pressure, preparing me for Business change.

What attracted you to this graduate role at Harley Street BID, and what made you want to join the team?
What attracted me to this role was the opportunity to apply my academic learning and professional experience into work that creates meaningful social and economic impact. I am a Proud Graduate of the University of Westminster, and my campus is located within the Harley Street BID footprint. Joining the BID felt like a natural progression, allowing me to give back to the area where I studied while contributing to initiatives that support businesses and the wider community.

What are you most excited about when it comes to working in Harley Street?
I am most excited about working in an area with a strong global reputation and being part of a team that brings together businesses, partners, and stakeholders to strengthen the district. The collaborative nature of the BID and the opportunity to work across different teams and projects are something I value greatly.

What are you hoping to learn or develop during your time with the BID?
I am keen to further develop my leadership and project coordination skills, particularly in cross-functional environments. I also want to deepen my understanding of BID operations, stakeholder engagement, and how data and consultation inform decisions that deliver positive outcomes for businesses and the local area.

Is there a project or area of work you’re particularly looking forward to getting involved in?
I am particularly looking forward to supporting business engagement initiatives and projects linked to safety, resilience, and consultation. These areas allow me to work collaboratively across teams and contribute to work that has a clear and visible impact.

How would your friends or colleagues describe you in three words?
Reliable, Proactive, and Approachable.

If you could spend a day doing any job (for fun), what would it be and why?
I would enjoy spending a day coordinating a large-scale city or community event. I enjoy working behind the scenes with different teams, solving problems in real time, and helping ensure everything runs smoothly.

Tell us something people wouldn’t know about you.
People are often surprised to learn how much I enjoy structured coordination and team-based work. I find real satisfaction in supporting others, keeping things organised, and contributing to projects that create positive social impact.
