Harley Street BID unveils Masterplan at summer drinks reception

The Harley Street BID was delighted to welcome its business community to a special summer drinks reception where it unveiled its Public Realm Masterplan.

Held at 1 Wimpole Street, who kindly hosted the event, the gathering marked a key milestone in the district’s journey towards a greener, more inclusive, and climate-resilient future.

Developed in collaboration with local businesses, residents, stakeholders, and partners and working with Publica, the Harley Street BID Masterplan reflects the collective aspirations of the community for a welcoming, vibrant, and resilient district. It sets a long-term vision for the public realm, providing a strategic framework to guide future improvements and shape an accessible environment for all.

Harley Street BID – Public Realm Masterplan Launch and Summer Networking Drinks

Located at the heart of London’s West End, the Harley Street BID area encompasses some of the capital’s most renowned destinations, from the retail and leisure offerings of Marylebone High Street to the world-class healthcare cluster along Harley Street and Portland Place. The area is also home to a significant residential community, whose needs and insights were central to the plan’s development.

Nicki Palmer, BID Director, said: “It was fantastic to see so many members of our community come together for the launch of our Public Realm Masterplan. This document is the result of extensive engagement and reflects a shared ambition for a greener, safer, and more vibrant Harley Street area. We look forward to working with all our partners to make this vision a reality.”

The masterplan outlines four area-wide strategies designed to:

  • Strengthen the area’s green grid,
  • Enhance the unique character of local streets,
  • Improve routes for pedestrians and cyclists through upgraded cycling and micromobility infrastructure, and
  • Deliver interventions by optimising excess parking capacity in the district.

Engagement with the community was essential to shaping the final proposals. Street pop-ups, an interactive website, and both online and in-person events provided valuable feedback that informed the vision and strategies now set out in the masterplan.

Special thanks to Councillor Geoff Barraclough for joining the evening to speak, and to 1 Wimpole Street for generously hosting the event.
