Harley Street BID is delighted to be working with the EU-funded Just Streets project, the University of Westminster and Cross River Partnership to bring a new parklet to Marylebone Street – creating a welcoming green space for rest, play and connection.
This initiative is one of just three parklets being introduced across London through the Just Streets programme, designed to make our streets more inclusive, sustainable and people-friendly.
The aim is to create a more accessible, educational and enjoyable street environment – supporting active travel and offering space for people to pause and spend time outdoors. Close to Marylebone Library, the proposed parklet has been co-designed with the local community and the University of Westminster.
At a community workshop held earlier this year, participants explored what they value most about the neighbourhood – from biodiversity and nature to culture and play – and helped shape the vision for the parklet. The result is a design divided into three themed zones:
The parklet will be able to monitor footfall and air quality which will be observed by Cross River Partnership. The Harley Street BID will manage the parklet on a day-to-day basis, with regular cleaning, maintenance and safety checks provided through our cleansing and security teams.
Through our business engagement, initial perception analysis and on-going discussions, we understand that businesses and the local community are keen to see more greening and seating. This project forms part of our wider commitment to improving the public realm across the district. From better signage to greener streets, we’re investing in ways to support wellbeing, improve the flow of the area, and strengthen its sense of place for everyone who lives, works or visits.
We look forward to keeping you updated as the project progresses.
