The Harley Street BID is home to an incredible mix of businesses, organisations and practices. Each month, we take five minutes to get to know one of the people who helps make Harley Street such a special place.
This month, we spoke with Mr Glenn Carp, Medical Director of London Vision Clinic on Harley Street, and Medical Director of Laser Eye Surgery for the EuroEyes Group.
Can you give us an overview of your organisation and its focus?
We are a specialist ophthalmic group focused on refractive and cataract surgery, helping patients achieve greater visual freedom and an improved quality of life.
Our expertise spans laser eye surgery, lens-based vision correction and cataract treatment, with a particular interest in more complex prescriptions, higher refractive errors and presbyopia. We combine advanced technology with highly personalised care to deliver the very best outcomes for each individual patient.
What are your main responsibilities, and your favourite part of the role?
My responsibilities are divided between leading the clinical standards and day-to-day medical operations of the practice, while continuing to operate as a surgeon at our Harley Street clinic. I remain closely involved in patient care, surgical innovation and supporting our wider clinical teams across the group.
The most rewarding part of the role is undoubtedly changing people’s lives. Restoring clear vision, reducing dependence on glasses, and seeing the confidence that gives patients never loses its appeal.
How would you describe a typical day for you?
No two days are ever quite the same, which is one of the things I enjoy most. A typical day usually involves a combination of surgery, patient consultations and clinical decision-making with the wider team.
I may spend the morning in theatre performing laser procedures, followed by afternoon consultations meeting new patients, reviewing outcomes and planning treatments. In between, there is always time spent mentoring colleagues, discussing complex cases and ensuring the clinic continues to run to the highest possible standards.
What do you enjoy most about working in the Harley Street area?
Harley Street has a unique atmosphere. It combines world-renowned medical excellence with the charm and character of Marylebone.
I enjoy the mix of people, the independent shops, the green spaces nearby and the sense of history that surrounds the area. It is one of those places where every day feels interesting.
Do you have any hidden gems or favourite spots in the area?
I have always been very fond of Daunt Books on Marylebone High Street. It is a beautiful bookshop with an exceptional travel section. You can lose yourself in there for half an hour and come out wanting to book a flight somewhere new.
In three words, how would you describe Harley Street and Marylebone Village?
Vibrant. Historic. Cosmopolitan.
Share something interesting about yourself that others might not know.
One of the things I am proudest of is our involvement in humanitarian eye care projects overseas. As a clinic, we have helped establish four charitable laser eye surgery and cataract centres for patients who would otherwise have little access to treatment.
We have long-standing projects in Nepal and Peru, and most recently helped bring a fourth clinic online in Ethiopia. Helping restore sight on a global scale is something very close to my heart.
